Slavery: Research

PART ONE:

  1. SUMMARY – When we were together on Wednesday, we began the difficult process of studying slavery in the 21st century. Please finish writing your summary of the “How Many Slaves Work For You” experience. When you finish, please:
  2. RESEARCH – When you finish your summary, do some online research on slavery in the 21st century. You may search for videos, websites, book reviews, TED talks, or anything else you want to look for. Please look for three solid sources of information and write the following in your notes:
    1. Write down the names and addresses of each resource you find.
    2. Write down notes and collect data and points that you find powerful and want to remember.
    3. Pay particular attention to the material that you find most powerful or impressive.
  3. SUMMARY – Once you find three resources, summarize your findings. Did you find anything particularly effective? Do you feel that there isn’t as much information available as their should be. Record your position for later use.
    1. Next week, we will use these sources to develop our citation skills.

PART TWO: ARTICLE

The next part of the class will focus on independent reading. Please read this article on your computer. Take notes on each of the nine ethical issues covered in the article. This is our introduction to the second ethical issue we will explore after slavery, Artificial Intelligence.

As you read,

  1. Take notes on each of the nine ethical issues covered in this article. If you would like a printed copy so you can mark the text with a pen, pencil, or hi lighter, please do so. You may print in room 115.
  2. Think about which aspect of this issue you find to be most important.

When you finish reading,

  1. When you finish the article, rank them in order from LEAST important to MOST important.
  2. Write a summary statement about your feelings on these issues.
