At ECCO we want to be understanding of you and that you may have things that are happening outside of this classroom that are requiring your attention. Those are typically rare occasions and if you need to be able to take a call or answer a text, please let your teachers and Paula know.

What is not ok is to be on your phone and gaming or texting your friends all period. Everyone came to ECCO with the hope of graduating, and your phone is going to get in the way of that.

So the phones need to be put away if they aren’t allowed to be out. We’ll tell you if they can be out and what they can be used for. [Work, calculator, research, music, etc…] If you are having difficulty keeping your phone away or using it in a way that works for class, Paula is happy to hold onto your phone for you. It’s not being taken, but if you cannot use your phone appropriately, then a phone call will be made home and you may be suspended for the remainder of the day. To help remind you of whether or not personal electronic devices are allowed to be out, please look for the sign located on the board.

Expectations:

• If the personal devices put away sign is displayed, devices need to be put away out of sight or glass down on the table.
• Students should not be on personal electronic devices when a staff member or fellow student is speaking to the class.
• If the personal electronic device ok sign is displayed, personal electronic devices may be used in line with teacher permission.
• If a device is a distraction and cannot be put away, Paula will hold it for a student if the student wants her to.
• If a student will not use their device appropriately and if they do not have Paula hold it for them, a phone call will be made home for assistance in dealing with the device.
• If there is still no resolution, a suspension for failure to comply with school directives may occur and the student will be sent home.
