Part One: Notes

Please take out a sheet of paper for notes. You may type your notes if you prefer. I will take a look at these notes upon my return. In your notes, please research and provide definitions and background for the following terms, concepts and individuals:

  1. Tragedy (in literature AND common usage)
  2. Hero(ism)
  3. The Holocaust
  4. Nazi
  5. Genocide

Part Two: Short Answer Responses

Please answer these questions and prompts using complete sentences. A short answer response should be a minimum of one paragraph. Remember to answer questions with details and examples.

  1. What do you know about the Holocaust? Explain
  2. How would you define/describe tragedy, in your own words? What is an example of something you consider to be tragic?
  3. When you hear/see the word “Nazi,” what comes to your mind?

Part Three: Introduction to Elie Wiesel

Please use headphones to watch this film, which features Holocaust Survivor Elie Wiesel and Oprah Winfrey exploring the history of The Holocaust at Auschwitz death camp. Take notes on the information presented. The video is about 45 minutes long and is packed with historical information about The Holocaust. When you finish your notes, write a personal reflection paragraph summarizing the film and communicating your personal responses to what you saw.
